I stopped today to breath
100-0
That’s all I had time for.
But between the breaths I saw the cross. Your Cross.
And I saw me behind the crowd, the crowd that jeered from the front and were silent in the back. We stood all in silence. People just like me, dressed in t-shirts and jeans. Sneakers. We sometimes glanced at each other. The same questions listed in our eyes…why are we here?
This was not of our world.
Yet when each of us had the time, we knew it certainly was of our world. This sacrifice of blood and water. For us. Somehow He had saved us all. And we were dumbfounded. Silent. Trying to connect the dots.
Our lives never turned out the way we had planned, had once thought as a child. But didn’t You say to act like a child, to believe like a child? Oh we did. We believed. With child like faith in what we could not see. Do we still?
We ‘see’ the cross. And we watch You die. And in that horror we die ourselves. We bury ourselves. We are afraid to live. Afraid to speak our faith. Afraid to really believe that because of our faith, we are different.
Am I different?
Do You make me different?
I am off to work soon. That makes me the same as all the other billion of people that prepare to go to work.
But I go to work with You. And that does make me different. But I go to work with questions. And I go to work with The Cross on my mind.
Come with me. Speak to me there. Help me to understand.
